May 19 , 2008 Regular Board Meeting

The Regular Meeting was called to order at 8:00 PM by President Means.

Board members present: Brown, Freebairn, Hales, Hutchinson, Kile, Means, Young

Absent: None

Others Present: Superintendent Lewis, Principal Hettmansberger, Gary Henry, David Albin, Janice Alexander, Cathy Albin, Perry Albin, Jennifer Burch, Terry Sullivan, Barb Board

President Means welcomed the visitors to the meeting.

Board approved the following Consent Agenda items:
Treasurer’s Report,
Activity Report,
resignation of Amy Kincaid as JH Volleyball Coach, Lindsey Tharp as JH Asst Volleyball Coach, Theresa Sisk as P.E. Teacher, Linda Allen, Aide,
District Annual Review of Safety Plans,
Protocols, Procedures, and School Safety Drills Report,
Application for Extension of Time to Complete Health/Life Safety Work,
Final Reading of 2008-2009 Jr/Sr High School Handbook,
Amended Final 2007-2008 Public School Calendar, set date and time for Public Hearing for Waiver or Modification of State Board Rules and/or School Code Mandates Section 24-2 105 ILCS 5/24-2.

Approved the regular meeting minutes of April 21, 2008.

Approved the payment of bills as presented.

Communications: Received a thank you card for flowers from Linda Lawson.

Friend of Education plaque was presented to Cathy Albin.

Letter from Regional Office of Education commending the district after the recent Life Safety Inspection. Superintendent Lewis commented that the district’s custodial staff puts in a lot of hard work to keep our buildings looking good and they take great pride in their work.

Board entered into Executive Session at 8:07 PM.

Board returned to Open Session at approximately 8:55 PM.

Principal’s Report: Technology Open House was May 6th- thank you Shiloh Elementary Teachers for all their hard work putting together an excellent Open House. RTI Plan has been written in accordance with State law. Kudos to the teachers involved. EIASE said this was the best plan they had ever seen. Elementary Track Meet was May 12. Thanked Mrs. Sisk for organizing such a great event. Jr. High Honors Banquet was May 14 and the evening went well. High School Honors Banquet was May 15. Thanked the Student Council for their recommendations and suggestions to make this a better night for everyone. High School Musical- Grease performed May 17 and May 18. They students did a very nice job. Congratulations to Mrs. Niemerg. It’s great for a school of our size to have that many students involved. Hats off to those students. Elementary Honors Assembly will be May 28th at 8:30. 8th Grade Promotion is May 22 at 7:00 PM. High School Graduation is May 23 at 7:00 PM.

Superintendent’s Report: RTI is a good idea but questions the where the revenue source will be. Received three quotes on both buildings from three companies: Dynamic Controls $35,000+, ADT $32,000+, and Eagle Eye $30,000+. Recommends using ADT.

Approved the Extra Curricular Handbook revisions as amended.

Approved employment of Sheryl Lawless, Part Time Language Arts/Reading Title I Teacher, Sam Guthrie, Science Teacher; Rachelle Carlen, Special Education Teacher; Jo Cummings and Robin Wahl, HS Basketball Cheerleading Co-Sponsors; and Angela Smith, JH Basketball Cheerleading Sponsor.

Approved the Tentative Amended Budget July 1, 2007-June 30, 2008.

Set date and time for Budget Hearing of Final Amended Budget July 1, 2007-June 30, 2008, of June 23, 2008 at 6:45 PM.

Announcements and Discussion: Aramark Contract Renewal Agreement – the 4% increase is based on the Consumer Price Index which is the maximum increase the State allows. Ms. Alexander, Aramark Representative, will get meal prices from other schools for the Board to compare. Superintendent Lewis will provide the Board will last years ending balance and figures to date for the current year.

Board entered into Executive Session at 9:50 PM.

Board returned to Open Session at approximately 11:00.

Approved a 3.5% salary increase for non-union Education Support Staff, $80,000 salary package for the Principal, and $98,000 salary package for the Superintendent.
